Around the World

Around the World- A Cultural and Geographic Adventure

Welcome and step on board to the classroom that will take you to new and exciting lands across the globe. If you are viewing this as a parent that means that your child has an interest in the geography and cultural differences of the world. They are in K-4 and have opted to join my adventure program for activity time.

Ever since I was a little girl I have dreamed, read, and eventually explored the world around me. This meant anything from my backyard to the countries on the opposite side of the world. I have always loved the outdoors and how people adapt to different areas. Now it is my turn to share it with you and your children! I will be updating this with the different areas we visit!

Ecuador

For this unit of the trip we visited both mainland Ecuador and the Galapagos. Students took a tour of the colorful markets of Otavalo and made their own unique handicrafts. Students made a turtle display using bright pieces of tissue paper to mock the beautiful colors we saw in the market. Next, we talked about the unique traditional clothing of the northern Ecuadorian people. I brought in my very own traditional outfit from Otavalo market to model for the students.

Africa (8 countries)

Ummmm what?!!? Yes you heard me right! We just got packages from Africa.

As many of you know I have been applying for a grant to go to Africa and study the animals, culture, and nature in a few african countries. Hopefully I will be camping in a tent for 40+ days in a tent. In an effort to get my students ready I have had some special deliveries arrive in our room. Stay tuned to find our what is inside!

P.S. Special thanks to http://lilysarahgrace.org/ for donating what is inside!
