Turkey Time!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

I am so thankful to have such a wonderful class this year! It was wonderful getting to be a silly turkey with them.  During the past two weeks we indulged in many thanksgiving themed activities.

First, our school made a thankful turkey. Every student picked one to two things that they were thankful for and wrote them on a feather then decorated it. We put them all together on our Mendon Turkey! We really are thankful for a lot!!!

Next, we decorated our own personal turkeys with up to six feathers listing things that we were thankful for. This was a super easy project to get ready and the students enjoyed making their unique turkey. All it took was some brown paper and feathers outlined on white. The students did the rest! We talked as a class about what we were thankful for and then wrote the words on the turkey feathers all by ourselves!!!!!

After learning all week about the pilgrims and the indians we got to make our own hats. No one could choose who they wanted to be so we decided why not be both?! First we cut and glued together our pilgrim hats.

Next, we decorated indian feathers and glued them on to make a headdress!

The final product would make any indian proud!

We had some extra turkey fun working on our color words!

WOW we were able to put our turkey feathers in order from 1-20!

We finished off the day by singing our holiday songs. Their favorite being Turkey Time! Here are the links just incase you would like to torture, I mean enjoy, yourself at home too!!!

Turkey Time Song! - Annoying but catchy!

At the end of the day we pushed our desks together and had a Thankful Snack time! We went around the circle and talked about what we were thankful for. Here were two student's responses.

P.S.

We will be having an Ugly Sweater contest. Students and parents are allowed to bring in money and vote for their favorite ugly sweater. The top three teachers who get the most money in the jar will have to kiss a goat during the Christmas Show. Here is a sneak peek at my ugly sweater.. funny because most of the kids thought it was beautiful with the fur and gems. Maybe in the 80's! Although this was a one time thing I will be dressing in Christmas sweaters all December long to try to earn some votes from the student body!

Happy Veteran's Day

Today my students and the students of Mendon Elementary brought me to tears. Twice the school got together to celebrate those men and women who have and still are fighting for our country and our freedom. All of the grades put on wonderful performances. A big thanks to everyone who came out and saw the program.

The kindergarten sang a Veteran's Day song to the tune of Danny Boy. The boys proudly held flags and the girls carried beautiful poppies. Everyone came dressed in their best full of red, white, and blue colors.

This little one had the ultimate display of American Pride!

This year Mendon Elementary made a special bulletin board to thank the veterans. Every student in the school traced their hand and together we made an entire flag. A "hand" for our Veteran's.

Congrats students of 104 you did a wonderful job and thank you to all of our veterans.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween Everyone!!

This year I decided it would be fun to try to sculpt a pumpkin. I bought a cute stand shaped like a mummy from walmart and a giant pumpkin from a shop down the road! Pretty proud of this guy!!!!

We had a wonderful Halloween here in room #104. The kids could not have been any more excited to get their costumes on and parade around outside of the school. Luckily the rain held off and we were able to  go outside this year!

Our Kindergarten team dressed up as Rock, Paper, and Scissors. The kids loved the idea and thought it was really silly. I can not tell you how many parents said "You better not run with those scissors."

We got a nice group picture to show off our costumes.

And a silly one of course!

We were lucky to have two surprise visitors, my mom and sister, or are also teachers. They helped get the festivities up and running for the rest of the day! The students even got them to join in the games!

WRAP THE MUMMY

The students were divided into three teams and took turns wrapping our designated Mummy. It was very cute when some of them got confused and kept calling it a "Mommy." Too Funny.

The finished Mummies!

The most exciting part was when we counted down from 10 and they got to break out of their wrappings.

Next, we played pint he nose on the Jack-o-Lantern while bling folded. This game got funny real quick when students were so far off they were halfway across the board. Once the students convinced my Mom to participate, she got so dizzy from the spinning she pinned the nose on MY face! It did not stop there... many students accidentally pinned their nose on me or various other places. It was a hoot!

What a fun day!
