Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween Everyone!!

This year I decided it would be fun to try to sculpt a pumpkin. I bought a cute stand shaped like a mummy from walmart and a giant pumpkin from a shop down the road! Pretty proud of this guy!!!!

We had a wonderful Halloween here in room #104. The kids could not have been any more excited to get their costumes on and parade around outside of the school. Luckily the rain held off and we were able to  go outside this year!

Our Kindergarten team dressed up as Rock, Paper, and Scissors. The kids loved the idea and thought it was really silly. I can not tell you how many parents said "You better not run with those scissors."

We got a nice group picture to show off our costumes.

And a silly one of course!

We were lucky to have two surprise visitors, my mom and sister, or are also teachers. They helped get the festivities up and running for the rest of the day! The students even got them to join in the games!

WRAP THE MUMMY

The students were divided into three teams and took turns wrapping our designated Mummy. It was very cute when some of them got confused and kept calling it a "Mommy." Too Funny.

The finished Mummies!

The most exciting part was when we counted down from 10 and they got to break out of their wrappings.

Next, we played pint he nose on the Jack-o-Lantern while bling folded. This game got funny real quick when students were so far off they were halfway across the board. Once the students convinced my Mom to participate, she got so dizzy from the spinning she pinned the nose on MY face! It did not stop there... many students accidentally pinned their nose on me or various other places. It was a hoot!

What a fun day!

Letter M Madness

Hi Everyone,

First, I would like to apologize in the delay in updating my blog. As always things have been crazy hectic and it seems like I never have time to breathe. There has been a lot going on in the classroom and many new additions, my favorite being the addition of a projector! Also, I bought a document camera and have been having way too much fun using it. The kids really enjoy it!

Hopefully in the following days I get to post everything we have been doing. Right now I would like to introduce you to my Arrrrgh Letter of the Week wall. We focus on one letter a week for two weeks then review the two of them on the third. For our new letters I like to make an art project to help them remember a few words that start with that letter.

Our first letter was the letter M.

From the Ground Up!

This past summer I spent an unbelievable time in Nepal. Words may not ever truly describe the the experience I had this summer. It was a humbling experience.

It's A Pirate's Life For Me

Did I already say how much I love our school's Pirate theme? Because I LOVE it!

Last night we had our Open House and it sure was a blast. The little pirates were all so excited to show their parents around and complete a treasure hunt of the school

The Kindergarten teachers and I placed a treasure chest out in the hall filled with maps that led the students on a hunt around the entire school.

They also grabbed their pirate hats that they made in school using our school colors, green and orange!

With the help of their parents (or maybe the other way around) they voyaged around the school using Chicka Chicka Boom Boom clues to visit all of the stops.

After completing the map and collecting a treasured sticker from each stop they landed on shore back under the palm tree in my classroom. Here the treasure awaited them!

I made the treasure chest out of a styrofoam cooler covered in packing paper topped off with a red X! Inside there were treasure bags for each student. I picked up these cute treat bags that were printed to look like a bag of treasure for 2 dollars at fun party store.

Inside I included a note with some goodies!

The little pirates were thrilled to discover the treasure inside!

My pirates all together decked out in their pirate hats around the treasure!

We had a great night! Thank you to all of the parents who came out to check out our school and our classroom!

All About Me

Trying to post at the beginning of the year has been such a challenge. Between starting up the classroom, setting things up, getting used to teaching all day again, and taking care of things at home I can easily say I am exhausted!

With that said, I have been having a blast getting to know the new kiddos and starting up all the units. Our first week we took some time to learn about each other as well as our selves. We talked about what made each of us special and different from others.

We finished off the week by creating our own self portraits. Everyone go at chance to look in the mirror, study facial characteristics, and decorate their own person.

It was interesting to watch all of them as the studied their eye and hair color then attempt to replicate it on their own personal figure. They really had a lot of fun. One girl even found it funny to made a funny face then copy that onto her person.

Every one did a fabulous job and got creative!

Finally we added some writing by learning to write the sentence "I am ______." This week's sight word was I so it was the perfect practice using the word as well as familiarizing everyone with sentence structure!

Good Job #104!!
